The Livetec NEX® History

Livetec Systems spent several years developing and trialling The NEX® from its initial prototype design to the revolutionary product on the market today.

The NEX® is inspired by a 3-year PhD by Dr Jessica Martin of the University of Edinburgh, which was funded by the Humane Slaughter
Association. Dr Martin’s PhD studied different methods of culling poultry and proposed a new handheld device designed to be quicker and more consistent than traditional manual cervical dislocation.

Livetec Systems developed this prototype over several years with the welfare of the bird a top priority. Following rigorous field
tests and extensive user feedback, we have designed a simple to use, robust device that ensures neck dislocation will be consistent, compliant and humane.

The NEX® goes beyond animal welfare.

“Inconsistent and non- compliant slaughter also ultimately has negative effects on the producer’s bottom line. Biosecurity is compromised if infected birds are not dispatched cleanly and quickly, and there can be serious legal and financial consequences for not meeting standards. NEX® is part of the toolkit to help all involved in looking after poultry ensure they do so with the utmost attention to bird welfare.”
